Biography

Formed in 2000 in Orlando, FL, by high school friends Travis Smith and Matt Heafy, Trivium made a name on the local scene by winning several battle of the bands competitions. Their style of 80's/90's thrash incorporating elements of death metal and twin guitar harmonies got them noticed and after various line-up changes, Beaulieu joined the group. Heafy was not originally the lead vocalist but was nominated after the original member left and showed his ability by winning best metal guitarist at the 2002 Orlando Metal Awards.

Trivium comes from the latin for the intersection between three schools of learning - grammar, rhetoric and logic. The band felt it showed their openess to various styles.

The release of 'Ember To Inferno' on Germany’s Lifeforce Records in 2003 was just the start. This album centred around the themes of 'romantic disillusionment and child abuse'. Heafy believes he gets rid of all his negativity through writing about it and continues similar themes of abuse and depression in their debut release on Roadrunner 'Ascendency'. The signing with RR was in April 2004 and by September Trivium were in the studio with Jason Suecof, choosing to record the drums in Morrisound and all the rest in Audiohammer Studios. Solidifying the line-up, Gregoletto joined the band for the recent Road Rage tour with Chimaira and Machine Head. In addition to the Road Rage tour, Trivium have toured with Killswitch Engage, Fear Factory, Iced Earth, Danzig and others.
