Biography

Soilwork formed in Sweden in 1997, a year later after a self produced and released album they were signed to Century Media. At this point they were 'ultra' heavy death metal but over time they have become more melodic. Their first album was produced by Fredrik Nordstrom who brought in the Jaffa Quartet, 'Chainheart Machine' was released in 1999. In 2002 they decided to sign to Nuclear Blast instead and their second Nuclear album 'Natural Born Choas' finally led to some serious touring with Hypocrisy and Killswitch Engage. For Europe they joined In Flames and Pain. They went straight back into Helsingborg's Queenstreet Recording Studios again with Fredrik Nordstrum when they returned, using Hatelight's Jens Broman for some backing vocals. Henry Ranta decides to leave after 'Figure Number Five' was released and his replacement was Rikard Ivansand. Rikard's debut gig is 'Gelsenkircher' the Germany 'Rock Hard' festival and the band continue touring to Japan. Then Rikard parts company to join Chimaira, Dirk Verbeuren who was previously in Scarve a French thrash band takes his place for the duration of the following tours as Soilwork embark on their 2004 headline UK dates supported by The Forsaken then support Anthrax and Killswitch Engage for the Australian and Japanese gigs. Their sixth album is started in Studio Kurling, Orebro in September, working with the producer Daniel Bergstrand.
