3 Inches of Blood assembled themselves in Vancouver, Canada but it took awhile before they finalised the line-up. First of all Jamie Hooper, Sunny Dhak and Bob Froese were set to do a reunion gig of an old group of theirs. This gig went really well and led to a five track demo release under the name 3 Inches of Blood (rumours vary on whether this name was taken from a dream of Froeses' or an over exaggerated story of one of the other band members). Steve Bays from Hot Hot Heat then introduced the band to Cam Pipes who laid down additional vocals on the E.P. The guys liked it and Cam joined as a permenant member.

The band did really well on the local scene and by 2002 released their debut 'Battlecry Under A Winter Sun' full of dungeons and dragons fantasy type imagery. Living by the rules of: 1) Metal 2) Metal and 3) No angst 3IOB perservered and landed a record deal with Roadrunner Records in 2004. 'Advance and Vanquish' is their first release on RR produced by Neil Kernon (Judas Priest) and engineered by Colin Richardson (Napalm Death, Cannibal Corpse). The artwork on the album sleeve was done by Ed Repka who formerly did artwork for early Megadeth albums. This album was actually delayed in recording for a month as new members were brought in, Brian Redman on bass and Matt Wood on the drums. read less
