In 1996 David and Jason split from a band called 'Salem Orchid' and started the new beginnings of the black/death metal band Akercocke (named after the monkey from Robert Nyles version of the Faust myths). They started writing dark satanic songs, the first being 'devil' that was planned to be based around what the afore said monkey said in the myths but it never sounded right and therefore was never released. But 'Hell' was created next and this became the first official song.

Their first official gig was in 1998 in the small London pub 'Red Eye' where they first wore their trade mark attire - black business suits. By December 1999 they were playing their largest, supporting Morbid Angel and Hecate Enthroned at LA2 in London. read less
