In 2000 The Secret Machines realised they were not going to 'make it' by sticking around in their home town of Dallas, Texas. They decided to take a huge risk and move to New York. On the way they stayed in Chicago for just over a week recording a demo as they knew this would be a pricey business in New York. Armed with this demo they all moved into a flat in New York and got poorly paid jobs to meet the bills. But they were working hard on their music and by 2002 managed to get their Chicago demo released on Ace Fu Records. Things started moving forwards and the band started working on a debut album at Stratosphere Studios. With help from the co-producer Jeff Blenkinsopp they managed to create the sounds that they had envisioned in their heads and 'Now Here Is Nowhere' was released in May 2004.
