Beacons Festival, aka the weekend formally known at The Moor Music Festival is an independent shindig set in the gorgeous countryside of this wonderfully green country of ours. Hills and fresh air aplenty, Heslaker Farm in Skipton provides a stunning backdrop and a line-up as tasty as a good Yorkshire pudding from 12th-14th August.
Beacons is very good at involving acts from the local area and across the north of England but by no means limits it to that. Over the three days fresh and exciting acts get showcased over six marquees spanning genres as far as the eye can see. Folk, rock, brit-pop, hip hop, indie, house, reggae, electro... it's all there so it's a perfect scenario for the more indecisive or eclectic music fan.
Presented by Moor Music, Iron Wagon and the 580 Collective, this year's bill of music, film and art is incredibly exciting. In terms of music, some of the names set to play include Jamie Woon, Summer Camp, Frankie & The Heartstrings, The Phantom Band, The Twilight Sad and Ghostpoet. We would list more but you can find the full line-up over on www.greetingsfrombeacons.com
The festival atmosphere is not, of course, just about the music alone. It's also about the community atmosphere of fun that develops for those few days. Beacons are making the most of their surroundings by inviting local farmers to sell produce for you to make up your own picnic...so hopefully the weather will hold out. There will be plenty to buy, see and do for all ages- it's a very family friendly festival with a spread of entertainment for the kids. And for those of you looking to expand your cultural horizons there will be installation art, performance lectures, craft slams and poetry jams.
For a festival that's a breath of fresh Yorkshire air, Beacons is very reasonably priced at just £69.50 for the weekend so it's well worth checking out.
