Snow Patrol have won another accolade at the end of what has been their most successful year to date.

'Chasing Cars' has topped the annual Virgin Radio top 500 countdown, where listeners compile the chart by voting for their three favorite songs of all time.

The list included many of 2006's big hits that have been played on high rotation by Virgin Radio over the past twelve months, with Razorlight, Primal Scream, Killers, Fratellis, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Gnarls Barkley, Zutons, Oasis, and Scissor Sisters voted in alongside classics from Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, The Clash, Bob Marley, R.E.M, Nirvana, T-Rex, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Jam, The Doors and Bob Dylan.

The Beatles unsurprisingly scored the most songs in the list with 32, with Rolling Stones coming next with 17. 15 David Bowie tracks and 14 from U2 and Queen were also included.
