DIGNITY DIES FIRST initially came together when Martin Fairchild (guitar) and Nic Small (guitar) approached Mevs (the original lead singer of both the massive FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND and local hardcore band FROM THIS MOMENT ON) with the idea of putting some vocals to some guitar parts they had been working on. Within a week or so they
had started writing and adding to the initial ideas, with the intention of finding the missing members in the very near future. Mevs said he knew a bass player called Mike Drew so he was invited down for a chat and a jam, and so the next member joined.

Songs kept progressing but they were desperately in need of a solid drummer. They'd seen Jonny Gardener play before and had spoken to him a few times so they got in contact and by September 2003, DIGNITY DIES FIRST was fully formed. Musically, their aim was to create a band that had the room and space to progress through a lot of different styles within each song. As with any band they cite influences from many different areas, not only musically (SHAI HULAD, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE) but also most importantly on an ethical level. Independence is the key word. A mutual disrespect for corporate culture and a total appreciation for self-control means that DIGNITY DIES FIRST is a hardcore band in every sense of the word. Knowing that every goal was created through hard work and sincerity allows them to appreciate things tenfold, and drives them forward as a band, as they believe that anything is achievable through perseverance and self belief. DIGNITY DIES FIRST come from the same DIY Welsh musical background as LOST PROPHETS, FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND and HONDO MACLEAN and have played with many great bands, including SHAI ULUD,THROWDOWN, KNUCKLEDUST and SWORN ENEMY as well as just finishing up a UK tour with RAZOR CRUSADE on Reflections Records.
