Smilex are a Rock ‘N’ Roll band plain and fucking simple. Like all your favourite Rock ‘N’ Roll bands but for now, not for any fashionable year in the last century: Guitar, Bass, Drums, Vocals, Riffs, Hooks, Sweat, Blood, Sex, Drugs and MORE SEX! Since being escorted off site at the Fox FM Balloon Fiesta in 2002 (only their 2nd gig!) Smilex have been up and down the country playing riotous gigs with other rock and roll animals like The Datsuns, The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster, Pretty Girls Make Graves, Young Heart Attack and Jetplane Landing, earning themselves both an impressive list of injuries and a fantastic reputation as one of the most out & out entertaining live bands on the toilet circuit.
With two releases on Oxford based Quickfix Recordings, who brought you Youthmovie Soundtrack Strategies’ debut mini album, quickly earning the band, rapturous support, (including Xfm airplay) and vitriolic criticism in equal measures. Smilex have had verbal abuse and fond comparisons as confusing and disparate as The Stooges, The Pixies, Jane’s Addiction and believe it or not Motley Crue(!!!) so we’ll leave you to make up your own mind but really recommend you check out their sado-masochistic stadium power rock peep show-coming soon to a town near you…
The Young Knives are Henry, The House of Lords and Skewie. Formed in Oxford in 2001 they have been making a name for themselves across the country. The Young Knives’ influences range from The Pixies to Steely Dan, to Adam Ant to Throbbing Gristle. Their debut album “…Are Dead” was released in October 2002 on Shifty Disco Records to rave reviews. Recent highlights include supporting Hot, Hot, Heat, The Futureheads and Supergrass. In the spring the knives will be writing and recording complete album in 7 days and 7 nights all shown on a 24 hour live webcast. Recent commentators have speculated that the reason the knives are not world famous is that they are "a bit fat and ugly".
