Nineteen year old Brit singer songwriter Adele has been unveiled today (Dec 10) as the winner of The Brits brand new award, ‘Critics Choice’, by The BPI, the
UK recorded music industry association.
Voted for by a panel of music experts, Adele topped the critics’ list as the most exciting new British artist expected to make it big in 2008.
On her BRIT win Adele said, "I’m really chuffed and flattered to have won the new category. It's fantastic to have lots of people supporting me and nice to know. I've always wanted a BRIT award and I'm made up to be getting one so early on! Thank you very much to everyone who voted!”
The ‘Critics Choice’ Award focuses on new British acts tipped to break through in 2008. The winner has been chosen by a team of experts made up of the music editors of national newspapers, key music and lifestyle magazines and music websites plus the heads of music at major radio and music TV stations. The award was open to artists
signed to a label who are set to release their debut albums in 2008.
The Brit Award nominations for all other categories will be announced at the London Roundhouse on January 14.
The Brits are to be held at London’s Earls Court on Febuary 20.
