Presented by Jarvis Cocker, who began proceedings by playing Catchphrase with the industry audience at London’s Brixton Academy, the Annual NME awards threw up few suprises at last night’s show.

Kasabian and Muse were the big winners of the night, with Muse winning the Best British Band plaudit and Kasabian gaining the Best Album gong for their third LP ‘West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum’.

Glastonbury was named Best Festival and Rage Against the Machine were named Hero(es) of the Year.

One surprise of the night however was Bombay Bicycle Club winning best new band after being pitted against 2009’s big album sellers - Mumford and Sons, La Roux, The Big Pink and The xx.
