Deftones are among the artists who are recording John Lennon songs to raise funds for Amnesty International. The recordings, which will be released as downloads through Amnesty.org, will be part of Amnesty's new music campaign that begins in January and will specifically target young people.

Alongside Deftones will be Avril Lavigne, Black Eyed Peas, Sum 41 and Duran Duran.

As yet there is no news on if a full compilation album of Lennon covers will be released. The first four tracks from Snow Patrol, Black Eyed Peas, The Cure and The Postal Service will be available to download from 10th December, check out the website here.

Yoko Ono donated the rights to her late husband's solo tracks to Amnesty International in 2002 for the Imagine campaign, which asked children around the world to sing the classic track.

The twenty fifth anniversary of John Lennon's death is this Thursday, December 8.
