The Arctic Monkeys have stormed into the record books tonight (29th) as they took the number 1 position in this week's album chart.

They outsold Richard Ashcroft in getting to the top spot and in doing so shifted 363,735 copies of their debut album.

They beat the previous record of 306,631, which has been held by Popstars TV show winners Heresay since 2001.
