It seems Saxon's status as local metal heroes in Yorkshire isn't quite what it once was.

The band were trying to attempt a world record for the biggest air guitar collective during halftime at the Sheffield Wednesday Sunderland game on Saturday. Sadly for Saxon the 29,000 strong Hillsborough faithful (which included an away support of 6000 from the North East) were more interested in booing than taking part.

According to the Yorkshire Post, a spokesman for the band has confirmed that, despite the disappointing reaction, a Guinness World Records judge who was on hand for the event, has presented the band with the certificate for completing the challenge, as long as it can be proved that some of the crowd took part. As the largest air guitar is a new event there was no actual number to beat.

It was a bad day all round for the majority of those inside the ground as Wednesday went on to lose the match 4 2.
