X FM is set to spread into South Wales with the announcement of a new regional radio license.
The station will cover Cardiff and Swansea, plus places like Bridgend, Neath, Llanelli and Port Talbot, on 106.8fm and 107.3fm.
With The Full Ponty, Fflam and Cardiff Calling hoping to establish themselves on the major festival list this summer, and Welsh rock acts Manic Street Preachers, Funeral For A Friend, Lostprophets, Stereophonics, Feeder and Kids in Glass Houses set for busy summers, this is the perfect time to give South Wales a station that reflects it's place on the UK music map. X FM South Wales has the Manic Street Preachers' Nicky Wire as chairman of its Advisory Board.
There is no launch date as yet, however Offcom will expect the service to be on air as soon as possible.
This is the fourth X FM in the UK, following last year's launch in Manchester and the rebranding of Beat106 in Scotland. X FM London will mark its tenth anniversary on air this August.
