The 4th July will see the launch of a new initiative in the UK. 'Independents Day' aims to raise awareness and celebrate the importance and success of independently released music across the globe and raise money for charity.

At the centre of the scheme is a double CD featuring well known artists covering their favourite independently released songs as well as new and upcoming acts (on CD2) as chosen by the acts featured on CD1.

Similar events will be taking place in other countries across the world and the limited edition albums will only be available from 4th - 7th July, with the Uk album then being available via download for a further month. The CD can be pre-ordered here.

The tracklisting reads as follows:
CD1

Tom Smith from Editors - Bonny (originally by Prefab Sprout)

Feeder - Public Image (originally by PIL)

Maximo Park - Was There Anything I Can Do? (originally by Go Betweens)

Prodigy - Ghost Town (originally by The Specials)
