Tangerine Dream, seven times Grammy nominated pioneers of electronic music are to play an exclusive one-off show on 28th May at The Lowry in Manchester.
Tangerine Dream have released over 140 studio and live recordings to date, including the genre-defining 1973 album "Atem" (John Peel’s album of the year). Their repertoire also includes over 20 film soundtracks including Legend, Risky Business, and the cult classic adaptation of Stephen King’s Firestarter.
They have compiled a special rhythm and bass driven programme for this one off event at the Lowry. The 2 ½ hour performance will be made up largely of new material that has never been performed live before, together with classics from the band’s 40 year history.
Tangerine Dream recently released "The Island Of The Fay" inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s poem of the same name. This is the first album in their new Eastgate’s Sonic Poem Series where great poetic works will be set against Tangerine Dream’s unique electric sound. The album breathes life into Poe’s tale through a great mixture of contemporary dynamic sequencing rhythms and partly experimental sounds, which go back to the bands early roots in the seventies. The album also features new violinist Hoshiko Yamane (Berlin Symphony Orchestra).
For the Lowry Show, founder member Edgar Froese will perform with the following long-time collaborators from Vienna and Berlin; Linda Spa (sax, flute, keyboards), Iris Camaa (percussion, V-drums), Bernhard Beibl (guitar) and Thorsten Quaeschning (keyboards). Guest musician: Hoshiko Yamane (electric violin).
