Makes Notes, Have Plans

‘Make Notes, Have Plans’ is the new release by South West’s Swim Team, and is a five track release of songs with themes ranging from things that have influenced them, time spent together as a band, war, love, memories as well as personal sacrifices.

It is quite difficult to find a great deal of amusement in the songs on this release. This is not because they are all dull or uninteresting, but because they are neither upbeat nor subtle, loud heavy rock or ballads, just placed in the centre, soft rock that is moderately paced. There is nothing particularly unique or distinctive. It is a record full of potential that has yet to be explored and demonstrated.

The vocals are sweet and suit the music extremely well, but with a little more oomph they could have been exceptional. They only real differentiation that comes to pass is the slight darker area on the vocals of ‘Masts and Sparks’.

There is a chance that Swim Team is a band that saves their full potential for a live show. So maybe experiencing the music on stage will give a better outlook on the band and a little more insight into what Swim Team really are capable of.
