We Are The End

Manchester based alternative rockers We Are The End have been gaining gradual success over recent months and look set to blow the top of their confinements with their debut Ep, ‘Chemicals’.

We Are The End really know how to combine a variety of musical genre elements into their music to create some varied tunes. Of the four songs present on this release, it is primarily powerful rock and electronica elements used, but there are occasional segments of darker areas and poppier parts. The first taste we get of the concoctions that We Are The End are able to whizz up is ‘My Last Regret’, a song driven by the electronica with an even layer of punchy drums combined with vocals a little less rugged than what I expected after seeing the CD cover, which was quite refreshing actually. ‘Cut Me Up’ continues on a similar path, with layered harmonies making a presence. The electronica is buried with this tune and makes less of an impact letting the rock shine through, however having a bouncier feel to it than the previous song.

Although each of the songs in turn uses some of these features, pop, hardcore, electronica, rock, it is the records title track where everything comes together to astonish and take over your mind. The concluding number, ‘Count Backwards From Ten’ rounds up the Ep nicely and leaves a listener wanting to experience more from We Are The End.

‘Chemicals’ is going to prove to some people that no matter what musical compounds you mix together, as long as you are able to do so in harmony, you can generate some adventurous, dynamic and gratifying tunes, just like We The End have been able to do.
