Six Blips of Energy

It would seem that, with the current UK music scene lapping up its light rock bands, We Will Be Pilots are boxing clever - they've got the light melodies of The Killers which will certainly pull the crowd in, yet there's not a total loss of good ol' rock and roll here. "We Are Not The Doctors" is an innocent enough jaunt through the happy streets of London, but it's a shame it falls short of only two minutes in length.

The length of songs is what plagues this album, unfortunately. With the longest track, "You're a Loaded Gun" clocking in at two minutes fifty seconds, and just six tracks on offer, "This is What You Fight For" is over before it really begins, and that's a bloody shame, because there's potential here that's only shown for fifteen minutes.

But what you do get for that blessed quarter-hour is six tracks of focused skill and energy mixed with just a twist of angst. While this is no Nine Inch Nails whinefest the vocals are somewhat dulling after a while.

Overall, We Will Be Pilots might well aim for the skies, but they need to get out an album that lasts longer than your average Dream Theater drum solo. So keep your eyes pointed well and truely to the skies and wait for whatever these guys offer you next - hopefully it'll be long enough for you to reach musical orgasm.
