Itchy Poopzkid - Dead Serious

When school friends Sibbi, Penzer and Saikov came together with a shared passion for creating good punk rock music, it is doubtful this young trio ever thought eight years down the line they would have three albums under their belt as Itchy Poopzkid in their native Germany, played many festivals and gigs around Europe and now heading to UK shores with their recent release ‘Dead Serious’.

These lads are set on pushing all the boundaries of genres, blending elements to form their own unique style of music. As the album opens there is a steady punk rock style set. However the further you listen, the more the band build upon the crashing guitars hooks to make some infectious tunes. ‘Learn to Drown’ is rather bouncy and quite laid back in comparison to its predecessors. With its electric guitars ‘The Living’ is more rock founded. ‘As Long as I Got Chords’ takes the punk style and twists it in such a way that will put a smile on your face. ‘Say Hello’ is fairly popish while ‘Drogenfrau’ follows a similar style but is more upbeat.

The vocals and harmonies are not as punk as you may expect as they really fly with connectivity and mesh well. This goes for the gruff voice as well as the more melodic tones that lace through some songs. Combining the vocals, catchy lyrical choruses and well-crafted music, Itchy Poopzkid make some really enjoyable tunes and have a bright future ahead of them. They played a few gigs in the UK earlier this year, but roll on the day they return to our shores for some more live shows.
