Fuzzy Post-Punk

The Ran-Tan Waltz are a fuzzy, rough prospect, newly formed and with a DIY ethos and approach; lo-fi production and a minimal sound back this up nicely. The tunes on this three track EP have a post-punk/New Wave twang, bringing to mind The Futureheads on occasion. ‘White Privilege’ is a short, sharp, raw beginning, leaving you in no doubt as to their political and social angle; this is a band not afraid to speak its mind. Musically they follow up on their lyrical intent; melodic and with decent riffs, but also with a slightly harsh, jangly tone in which you can her every note, every beat in all its naked glory. An interesting and promising record, you can check out the best track on the EP ‘New Grub Street (Invita Minerva)’ on their myspace page.
