The Fighting 69th demonstrate their growth

The Scottish quintet that is The Fighting 69th concoct their style of Celtic indie rock with this release.

This EP is one of those records that take a few songs to get into. ‘The Everlasting’ is the opening track but never really stands out or grasps your attention to the point you are thirsty for more. ‘Panic' proceeds with a little more endurance and gets the head nodding with approval. Although it is once again upbeat and moderately paced likes its predecessor, there is something more appealing. ‘Pick Me Up' grows with slightly catchier lyrics than the previous songs making it lyrically as well as musically an improvement. From here the record gets better and better.

Although ‘Echoes' and ‘The Human Way' slow things down a tad they remain convalescing. The latter excels on the gentler side of things and reveals The Fighting 69th can be both tender as well as high spirited with their music. Excelling on their creation again, 'In The Red' takes a classic rock twitch incorporating vocals that are loud and a little out of sorts and sharp music that create an extraordinary live ambiance. This style lingers on ‘The Bible And The Gun', encouraging you to unconsciously tap along.

Ambition is high with The Fighting 69th and if through just eight songs they can develop this much, imagine how much more these four Scottish fellas can achieve.
