Diem Single

Some bands try to play it cool with their latest releases; let the listener settle in and digest the first few bars. Not The Screening and their new single, 'Diem'. With barely chance to read the track's title, Tom Nurse's confident vocals have already taken hold amidst a healthy backing of rousing, razor-sharp guitar. The relentless tempo helps to hide the lack of any real chorus but proves how promising a lead singer Nurse is with the front-man's breathless performance. When Nurse finally takes a break, the gauntlet falls to Tom Lewitt and an equally stirring guitar solo.

B-side 'Who Cares Anyway' hints at the grandiose ambition that the band possess as well as a cheeky side. Chunky reverb-laden guitar riffs set the scene before a series of rapidfire, cocksure lyrical couplets is unleashed. While the tempo remains insatiably high, there are candid elements of tongue-in-cheek backing vocals and a guitar solo fast running out of room.

Forget the hype, The Screening are a band to truly believe in.
