My New Fav Band
Ipsofacto: meaning because of the fact. Hmmm... but who’ll really care what it means? The name is awesome and so is this band. So the Welsh appear to have done it again. Hailing from Swansea, Ipsofacto are a new alt-rock band ready to kick down the door and burst onto the music scene. Here we have their new EP ‘Necklaces On The Branches Of Trees’ and I am SO stoked about these guys. Even just from a small four track EP I already love them, and will put my money on the fact that everyone else will too.
‘The Y Made Me Do It’ begins with idyllic guitars but soon dives into heavier, passionate riffs. The song blends lead singer Chris Seacombe’s enthralling vocals with raw backing aggression vocals forming a union of both serenity and anger. The band is able to manoeuvre effortlessly through the track as it goes from thrashing depth to emotional heights. ‘Bring Into Being’ again starts off at a run. This song is lighter and more carefree than the last but still has amazing appeal. The youthful sounding rock is both engaging and enjoyable. A perfectly timed lull halfway through the song allows for a steady build to a climax and really accentuates the quality of the song.
A quickening drum beat signals the beginning of ‘Probono’. This continues throughout with showy guitar work to bring out Seacombe’s voice and the sentiment of the song. The tune picks up momentum as the voice sings "Always be loved" and dies back down to its former glory for a decisive ending. To finish we have ‘Mexican Trade’, a surprisingly profound and emotional seeming song. That is until a sudden break introduces a random British accent saying ‘It’s not a drug it’s a drink.’ The song then continues to cascade through all the points that made the last tracks so great, but all rolled into one and ends with a single rock and roll drum crash.
