Frank Turner - Rock & Roll

Ex-Million Dead frontman Frank Turner strays even further from his hardcore roots with his latest effort "Rock & Roll". The five-track EP sees the successful solo singer, who has shared stages with the likes of Green Day and The Offspring, dish up his increasingly popular brand of folk-tinged rock.

But whilst Turner's solo sound differs from his band's back catalogue, the determination and drive, which Million Dead were renowned for, is still present in his current music.

Lead track off the EP 'I Still Believe', which will also feature on Turner's forthcoming album, is a passionate song dedicated to the power of rock and roll. With poetic lyrics such as "Now who'd have thought that after all, something as simple as rock 'n' roll would save us all", it is unsurprising that this upbeat and positive tune has already built up a solid reputation as a live anthem.

Tracks like 'Pass It Along' and EP closer 'The Next Round' are marvellously mellow and superbly showcase Turner's vibrant vocals and witty words.

"Rock & Roll" is an outstanding EP, but with only 17 minutes of music, it will undoubtedly leave listeners desperate for even more new material. Frank Turner is an extremely talented individual, who has no problem penning poetic and memorable folk-rock songs, if this exciting EP is anything to go by, then his next album will be an absolute scorcher.
