Boss Keloid - Angular Beef Lesson E.P.
Taking their name from an Iron Monkey track, Wigan-based noisy bastards Boss Keloid wear their influences proudly. Sharing a similar sense of humour and musical style to the aforementioned Iron Monkey, on paper it would be easy to write Boss Keloid off as Iron Monkey rip-offs. In actual fact, it's immediately obvious after even a cursory listen that, other than superficial similarities, Boss Keloid are very much their own band, and easily defy such lazy comparisons.
Featuring some choice song titles, such as the wildly inappropriate sounding "Spurt Reynolds", ode to Carol Vorderman "Reveal The Fs", and the enigmatic "Let's Have A Dolphin Competition", Boss Keloid's debut EP 'Angular Beef Lesson' is, somewhat surprisingly, a seriously groovy affair with sludge-heavy hints of Down, Crowbar and Melvins and topped off with the tooth-rattling bellow of vocalist Alex 'Hick' Hurst.
This would be pretty impressive sounding stuff from anyone, but, considering Boss Keloid have only been around since 2009 and Angular Beef Lesson is their debut release, this is doubly impressive and, if you like your music to groove as well as being heavy as fuck, then Boss Keloid are a must.
Put bluntly, 'Angular Beef Lesson' is a fat, sweaty and hirsute pair of swaying mammoth cojones. And that's a good thing.
