Lo-fi quirkiness

Vets lo-fi analogue recordings on their new self-titled EP are often quite low key, these alt-indie tunes with an occasional burst of a faster tempo keep you interested and on your toes until the end. The EP really hits the spot; the trio have captured, with these five cracking tunes, the right balance between off kilter alt-rock and lo-fi melodic indie and created memorable tunes that you want to come back to.

Opener 'Flags' has hypnotic, looped vocal lines and synth which quickly become lodged in your head; it's a dark and atmospheric sounding track and a great way to start. 'Shapes You made And Left Without' is more urgent and has a faster beat, this combined with warbled vocals from Matt Grindon give it a Maximo Park feel. You can hear a distinct folk influence at work on 'Giant Wooden Horse', layered vocals and acoustic guitar along with interesting background noises from the percussion make it stand out. Catchy melodies, quirky rhythms and diverse instrumentation all combine make this a gem of an EP.
