Mojo Fury - Visiting Hours Of A Travelling Circus
Irish rockers Mojo Fury bring the err, well for lack of a better word, fury on their excellent debut album "Visiting Hours Of A Travelling Circus". Whilst the group have released EPs in the past, they are undoubtedly aware that the first full-length record can make or break a band. Consequently the three-piece have quite clearly poured their hearts and souls into their latest work.
Fortunately for the trio, the release is a great listen from start to finish and is very likely to garner the band the attention and recognition they admittedly deserve. The record is incredibly eclectic and sees the group tinker with soft, heavy, fast, slow, intricate and simple sounds, thus serving up an array of unexpected and unpredictable songs.
Welcomed into the album with opener 'The Mann', the tune eases and lulls the listener in with an initial instrumental. However, the peace is quickly disturbed as the track eventually explodes into a wall of noise, greeted with mewithoutYou-style screams.
Mojo Fury continue to surprise with their hardcore-tinged brand of alternative rock working particularly well on 'Colour Of The Bear', which is the second single off the release, and the bizarrely-titled 'Pill Pigeon Is An Orange Wheel'. With its raw and gritty vocals, and rampant riffs 'Deep Fish Tank (Factory Settings)' wouldn't go amiss on a Queens of the Stone Age album, whilst 'Lemon Marine' possesses a marvellous mish-mash of genres and sounds.
However, it is this erratic and often unfathomable approach that ultimately makes the band's latest effort work so well. "Visiting Hours Of A Travelling Circus" does quite literally leave you eager and on the edge of your seat, wondering what the hell will make an appearance next.
The Irishmen are clearly determined to make a name for themselves and it is very likely they will with this astounding album. It might leave you a bit baffled and bewildered, but this record is definitely worth a shot, even if it's just to marvel over the peculiar song titles.
