Ghostly Sounds

Hailing from Michigan, Ghost Heart have been together for three years and are now ready to launch their debut album onto the world. The band stuck together through the hard times thanks to the matching tattoos they all got even before they had stepped on stage together for the first time, not that we here at R13 advocate such an action, well not without seeing the tattoos first anyway.

Not only does the band like their tattoos, they also love their percussion instruments. All four band members playing with them, which I guess makes up for the lack of a designated drummer, not that they need one with the sound they create. It's experimental, folky, psychedelic, mellow, melancholic and slightly tribal too.

Ghost Heart have been likened to post Syd Barrett but pre "Dark Side" Pink Floyd except with way more impressive lead vocals; but then that was the band themselves coming up with that and it is that sort of fun that comes across on these tracks, not in a jokey way but you can feel the enjoyment they must have when playing them each time.

If you are a fan of bands such as Akron/Family, Band of Horses, Grizzly Bear and Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros then you will most likely love "The Tunnel". At nearly 40 minutes long, it does not take a rocket scientist to work out that the tracks average 5 minutes a piece. 'No Canticle' at nearly 8 minutes long does kind of ruin the average but is a classic case of the tribal sound with the constant drum beat and soft instrumental throughout.

All in all, "The Tunnel" is an enchanting album. If you are looking for something rocky, then best you move along, nothing to see here. But if you are looking for something a bit different, chilled and heart warming, well then step right inside.
