Anthemic Indie

Cambridge four piece Ghostlight release a debut full length album of indie anthems which are in turn light and breezy and darker with melancholic undertones. They employ plenty of catchy melodies and a mix of piano, guitar and vocals with a mild tone making them very much in the vein of Coldplay and Snow Patrol. "Somersaults" is a collection of full bodied, rousing tunes but with an overall light and slightly dreamy feel, nothing too dramatic or taxing. Very pleasant though.

There are some great tunes; title track 'Somersaults' which has duel boy/girl vocals is very charming with a memorable melody running through it (you'll find yourself singing this one). On the moodier side we have 'Silent Novels' which is less twee and has heavier atmospherics and lyrics. '6 Years later' is a cracking tune; showing off the band's knack of creating an uplifting chorus with string and piano sounds.

The record is solid and radio friendly overall, fans of the aforementioned Snow Patrol and Coldplay should love it (although a few tracks are slightly too similar in tone). The rising emotional crescendos on most of the tracks are skin tingling on occasion and this mixed with the hooky riffs, emotive heart-on-sleeve lyrics and catchy melodies creates a winning formula that's sure to get them a ton of airtime and a sturdy fan base.
