Once upon a time, in the age of the independent record shop...

Every day on the radio, we hear love songs and we hear break-up songs, but very rarely do we hear artists singing about independent record shops. The concept of The Daydream Club's 'The Record Shop' alone makes for a very interesting listen, but this is undeniably outshone by the splendour of the composition.

The true magnificence of this track can be accredited to the incredible bond between vocalist Paula Walker and guitarist/vocalist Adam Pickering; their voices entwining with blissful results. Pickering's guitar parts are suitably decorated, yet often uncomplicated; effectively elaborating in the absence of vocals, but becoming contained when the lyrics begin. It has the same degree of emotional intensity as the verses of Snow Patrol's 'Run' and although there is no real sense of climax or direction, it is a tender piece that is stronger for not feeling as though it should conform to structural expectancies.

Many acoustic duos succumb to a feeling of vulnerability; insecure with the restricted forces that they bear in comparison to a full electric band or a huge studio production sound. The Daydream Club clearly have no such fears and display maturity way beyond their years with their 'less is more' mentality. Consider this an invitation to the club and allow yourself to drift off to the calming sounds of 'The Record Shop'. This is a dream; a beautiful dream.
