Rock is their drug – meet the dealers. Get addicted to One More Addiction.

When you've played as a covers band for 8 years, I can't imagine it's the easiest thing in the world to do to start writing your own material. Yet, this is the intensely shortened version of the story of Canadian rock band One More Addiction. Rikki Smith, Brad Blakely, Brendon Sturgeon and Stephane Veillieux created One More Addiction in 2000, playing covers at pubs and clubs; in 2008, they self-produced their first album, "Bad Habits".

I love the band's own description of what they are about – "...a loud 'n proud band with an abundance of energy" – I couldn't put it better myself! With a sound that could easily fill an arena - massive guitar melodies and powerful vocals aplenty - you sure know when One More Addiction are around! This is most definitely not one for the faint-hearted.

Whilst I was enjoying the album, before I knew it, I had reached Track 4 ('Thoughtless Think'n) without even realising the first track had ended! Sadly, a lot of the album is quite monotonous and the same formula is used as a basis for almost every song. That's not to say that it's a bad formula – I loved the guitar shredding, I loved Smith's sleazy, sexy accentuations as he sung, but I would like to have experienced more colour and texture.

'Create a River' was the first song that broke this formula: a part-acoustic track that showed the tough nuts' soft centre without the gooey gushy stuff that could so easily have made an unwanted appearance. This provided a welcome relief from the musical maelstrom and also proved that the band is far from a one-trick pony. A full-acoustic version of this track can also be found at the end of the album; this stripped down version beautifully showcases the guys' talent and, whilst unexpected, provided a wonderful ending to this dynamic album.

One More Addiction and their debut album "Bad Habits" is a musical rollercoaster from start to finish; throw caution to the wind, put your hands in the air and enjoy the ride..!
