Tangents within a tangent

A glorious cacophony of pulverised drums, upside down guitar and vocals as visuals clatter forth from this split 10". "Brew" is where unconventional, rock by name only, artists piss all over the notion of smoothly crafted commercial songs for use on middlebrow TV shows necessitated by dwindling public attention spans and financial imperatives. This is music for music's sake.

Not needing to please anyone but themselves, Kong go first with 'Ribbons' a mathcore song written on crumpled, soiled paper. Hardcore guitars squeal and fight with each other while Magpie yowls in pain for two and a half minutes. The spirit of Oceansize lives on in this new mangled form. The slightly more tranquil sounds of Shield Your Eyes and their lo-fi garage spew of 'Jessica' occupy the pits of track two. A whatever-wave collection of guitars bang out the tune while the drums give the impression that they were recorded in a cupboard somewhere.

Now suitably engaged, That Fucking Tank bring on the groove with lip curling swagger and a dirty metallic gallop on 'NWONWOBH'. They make the most of their riff on this instrumental and provide probably the most accessible track on the disc. Snotty Yorkshire noise rap over a schizophrenic collection of electronics and snatches of dog barks is the sound of Castrovalva (a kind of DIY Battles)and their contribution is 'In Our Prime'. Despite its short running time it improves with every second.

65daysofstatic sense the need to bring the rabid animal down from the ceiling with their soothing, drenched in electronics remix of Kong's 'Ribbons'. The spat vocals of the original are placed in the background as if being shouted from the past while loops are layered and layered building into a jigsaw of many colours and that Magpie fella sings us home.

Not for everyone but that's the glorious point, they don't need us.
