Clout! – Clout!
Experimental 5 piece Clout! mutually decided to withdraw from gigging to concentrate on developing their sound. The result is this self titled EP release which features 'Maxwell's O' which represents the bands live sound and 'It's Too Late' and 'The Dodo Riddim' to showcase their take on studio production. Intriguingly, there's a total of five (yes, five!) versions of 'Maxwell's O' on the EP.
The first track 'Maxwell's O' does have its moments amongst the general rhythmic chaos and the track as a whole seems to (eventually) work. Experimental, it is, and its' originality is quite nice, though it does become a little overly self-indulgent.
'It's Too Late' and 'The Dodo Riddim' are heavy, complex studio tracks; lots of bangs and crashes accompanied by the occasional tweak. Very reminiscent of early work by Kraut Rockers 'Faust', the self indulgence does rear its' ugly head again.
The remaining four tracks on the EP are different remixes/takes on 'Maxwell's O'; completely unnecessary and quite monotonous to be honest.
