Jeff Green - Jessica

Jeff Green's self financed debut album 'Jessica' is inspired by the tragic loss of his daughter who was still born. Eleven years in the making, this Prog Rock album is a superb piece of work, written and arranged by Green, it is very well put together and the production is spot on.

He is an American who now lives in Ireland, after spending many years in the UK as a musician. He's an accomplished guitarist and featured on the album are Mike Stobbie (Keyboards), Pete Riley (Drums) and Phil Hilborne (Guitars).

The record is compelling from the outset. The opening track, 'For The Future' is mesmerising and masterful in its delivery. The musicianship is excellent and it sets the album up nicely. During the album, there are echoes of bands such as Pink Floyd, Yes, Camel and even Led Zeppelin; but the overall feel and deep emotion make the listening experience very gratifying. This is classic progressive rock with a modern feel. The crystal clear production would put many bigger bands' and artists' efforts to shame.

It's not all heavy and moody; there are often quieter, more reflective acoustic moments, particularly effective examples include 'Pride' and 'Vision'. The looser sounding 'Willing The Clouds Away' is a bit more self indulgent and features some very competent keyboards but for me the bigger sounding tracks make this album. 'Woman With Child' is massive. The arrangement is big and so too are the emotions; this is what prog rock is about. The delicately delivered 'Jessie's Theme' has an eerie feel; the guitar effects and synthesisers coming into the fore. The emotions are felt from the beginning and all this coupled with the solid bass make this my favourite track on the album.

Overall the album hits the spot. It's full of memorable moments and shows off Green's talents to the full. The musicians joining him fit in seamlessly and the final product is astounding. This album should be in your collection.

Just one final thing - All of Jeff's profits from the album will go to help Southend Hospital Maternity Ward maintain their Bereavement Room. So that's another very good reason to buy it!!!
