The Catharsis - God Damned

If their destructive debut EP is anything to go by then The Catharsis are onto big things. Conjuring up an ear-deafening slab of hardcore, the Birmingham quintet's gnarly noise is admittedly not for the faint-hearted, but if given to the right crowd will cause total chaos and mayhem.

Whilst they might not be revolutionary or pushing the genre boundaries, the band's blistering style and sound has proven to be a winning formula with predecessors, having worked particularly well for acts such as Architects and Every Time I Die.

"God Damned", the Brummies' four-track EP is a rampant, ruthless and robust record that reiterates that sticking to your guns and not attempting to reinvent the wheel can be a very wise decision.

Thundering into the EP with 'Deletist', The Catharsis waste no time with introductions, speeding straight into the song with sheer strength. This intense determination remains throughout the further three tracks, with the group demolishing the release in little over ten minutes.

'-+', which wouldn't go amiss on Architects' latest full-length "The Here And Now" and punchy 'Party Scars' follow the forceful opener, both possessing boisterous and belligerent traits that will translate incredibly well live.

True to form closer 'Colder' is fast, fierce and heavy, concluding the concoction on a hardcore high.

Whether it is the vigour and passion that presents itself on every song on "God Damned" or the outfit's unrepentant attitude to treading within a genre and hinting at their influences, the band are an instantly likeable bunch, whose music is equally enjoyable.

These bolshie Brits are most definitely ones to keep an eye on, catch them at a local show this summer.
