Wholesome Rock
In August 2010 we introduced Subset as our Band of the Month. One year later the quartet release their latest EP "Mahogany", which reminds us exactly why we loved these boys so much to give them our prestigious Band of the Month award.
Kicking off with 'Lucid Dreamers' it lets us know that this five track EP is once again going to be a full on rocking release. Right from the opening chord it is full of distorted goodness and never lets up.
All five tracks stand out for the quality of musicianship, the varied styles but all keeping the genuine rock atmosphere throughout. Romain Daste's vocals combine the easier feel on 'We Are Subset', the hypnotic on 'Desire' to the screamier feel to 'Lucid Dreamers'.
Subset certainly cannot be considered pretentious, they play home grown, wholesome rock, full stop. There is no pretending to be something they are not, no pandering to record industry big wigs in a desperate plea to get noticed, they play and party as exactly who they are and thank God for that as the music scene is a better place for it.
