Isaac's Aircraft- 'Mathematics'

Cambridge boys Isaac's Aircraft have turned out with quite a good little single in 'Mathematics'. Having sought out the production talents of Gavin 'The Editors, The Twang, Elbow' Monaghan from Magic Garden Studios, the track is a high-energy example of creative indie rock.

It's not ground breaking stuff though. It's essentially synth-infused, ballsy pop rock we've seen Kaiser Chiefs peddle for some time now- but it hasn't got the same vocal clout which broke Ricky and co into the mainstream. That's not to say it hasn't got commercial potential. It is certainly easy enough on the ear to win favour with those partial to the friendly side of guitar-heavy tunes.

In addition to the 'electric' version of the track, the single features a stripped back, acoustic piano-centric version of the song. I would wager that the latter has much more to offer. The slower pace and purer instrumentals allows the richness of the vocals to take a more starring role in the Isaac's Aircraft identity. It's a quirkier sound that shows off the off-kilter rhythmic structure of the track to much greater effect and would certainly have a greater resonance with the more 'serious' fans of indie rock.
