The Kush- Aniseed

I felt my poor wholesome soul go pale as I googled where The Kush may have got the inspiration for their name from, but I suppose it does match the whole rock n' roll image alright. 'Aniseed' is the name of this Geordie set's debut single, and it's a little cracker bursting full of funk.

The Kush were onto a winner from the opening twangs of guitar. They're like the last few clunks to the highest peak of the rollercoaster before you look all the way down... and it's a bit of a thrill ride from there. If anyone's going to make sax look good since The Zutons seem to have gone AWOL, its going to be this lot. In a barrage of groove and gruff vocals, The Kush come across as a delectable blend of The Sunshine Underground and The Rapture... and we've all scratched that itch to dance when they've been belted out before.

The guitar work that drives the track forward has an energy that's tailor made for the indie dance floor as Madchester era tunes clearly have played their influential part. Perfectly balanced with blues tinged rock n' roll, it's a really impressionable debut from a band that hold a lot of promise for a quite a live show too.
