Fly This For Me-Making Shadows EP

Guildford's Fly This For Me have produced four twisting melodic rock songs in their debut EP 'Making Shadows' and they're consistently full of potential. Taking cues from the likes of Yellowcard, Kids In Glass Houses and Biffy Clyro, their driving and passionate sound takes every opportunity to demand attention on each of the four tracks compiled here.

Opener 'She Said' merges atmospheric jabbing guitar-work with a sing-a-long chorus without losing any sense of determination or muscle, the following 'We All Fall' includes refreshingly non-safe lyrics from vocalist Tim Cowen over lush guitar interplay and the title-track hits with a brilliantly affecting climax. You can certainly hear the band's influences but it's all done with a real passion and enjoyment that shines through and makes it an engaging listen from the first track to the last. Unlike many of the newly-formed British bands trying their hand at big-chorus rock at the moment in an attempt to potentially stand shoulders with the likes of Lower Than Atlantis and Deaf Havana, this EP feels like the band have put a real care and effort into the songs and have truly enjoyed putting them together, all as a result possessing an uplifting core within their outer shells of lyrical anger and bitterness.

Their sound isn't the finished article but this is a strong start for a band that formed well under a year ago and leaves you interested as to where they'll take it. This is good stuff, give the record a whirl and see what you think.
