A Poetic Yesterday - The Movie: Director's Cut

Whilst 'The Movie: Director's Cut' might be hotly-tipped, the single which filters from light-hearted gestures to superfluous screams, does nothing to really secure A Poetic Yesterday's place within the British pop-punk line-up set to rival the US' reigning scene.

Indeed, the track feels a little too complicated, as though the Redditch quartet have thrown as many ideas and styles into the melting pot as possible, without really mulling them over.

However, with that being said the stripped back acoustic version of the track, which we're also offered on the release, is significantly better than its predecessor.

A reworked version of 'I Can See The Seller', which originally featured on the band's album "A Little South Of Zero" is another slowish serving that makes the self-proclaimed pop-punk placing seem less and less plausible.

'Takedown', which is the theme tune for Europe's largest amateur martial arts tournament and 'Same Old, Same Old' are the glimmers of hope that these lads can write some style conscious and structurally strong scorchers when they want to. We're greeted with glorious guitar-driven melodies, sing-a-longs and choral chants fit for a sizeable live crowd, which feel a lot more genre fitting.

This might be the single release with five bonus tracks thrown in for good measure, but the latter undoubtedly outweigh the former. A Poetic Yesterday are seemingly at their best when they stick to one approach, soft or heavy work equally well for this lot when composed separately, but mixing the musical methods together is better off kept to a minimum.
