Burn The Sunset – Home
As a country we seem to be able to offer up some down-right heavy bands, laying down some mega heavy slabs of metal and hardcore that often give the Americans particularly stiff competition musically. The combination of the two aforementioned genres have given us over the years the often loathed metalcore tag but yet some of the best acts (Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall etc) have under been produced under this rather over used tag. From straight out of the Scottish town of Stirling, quintet Burn The Sunset have managed to unleash their own nasty brand of metallic hardcore with their debut album Home.
From the get go, you can tell that one hell of monster sound has been unleashed, ripping its way through anything in its path. And with such hatred being spat out so venomously with some rather bang on the money vocals, Burn The Sunset seem even more fierce. The definitive elements of hardcore are certainly here alright. The presence of gang vocals? Check. Blistering and chugging beatdowns? Double Check. But underlying this chaotic storm of noise being thrown at you are well hidden but cleverly delivered melodic guitar lines making this some of the most well rounded output in an ever increasingly stacked scene. This a twenty minute white knuckle ride for sure with absolutely no let-up and at a break neck pace to boot. The bottom end rumble and guttural growls lend themselves towards the likes of US stalwarts Bury Your Dead and Full Blown Chaos whilst retaining a distinctly scrappy Britannic flavour in the mix.
A legitimate contender to Your Demise's heavyweight title of British hardcore? Quite possibly. A strong and tight debut from a band exhibiting a great degree of potential; they'll be creating a mosh pit near you soon.
