The Hiding Place - Snaketown
Hailing from the Midlands, The Hiding Place are a post-hardcore/alternative rock outfit fresh off the back from playing shows with the likes of letlive and The James Cleaver Quintet, not bad going there for an unsigned band who have only been together since 2010.
New single from the five-piece Snaketown is the latest release after two EP's in to the band's short but fast rising career. There are certainly the elements of sweeping post-hardcore harmonies and punchy old fashioned alt-rock goodness present here but the pace never really leaves any further then the standard of second gear and when you think that it is all about to get really interesting, it's pretty much over before its begun.
Musically the band are tight as hell but you can't help but feel that there is something majorly lacking in the chemistry department as the songs plods along.
The single's B-sides Popular Myths and Pay No Attention (To The Man Behind The Curtain) pick up the pace slightly but it just feels like the play-it-safe attitude has taken over and replaced the edginess that The Hiding Place's fellow UK and US contemporaries have in such abundance.
A lukewarm release that only really half inspires, the foundations are there for this band to be good and make a significant impact but it still seems that they have a long way to go yet if this single is anything to go by.
