Firefalldown – These Wounds

A band seasoned by the constant grind of the road and a good example of a strong work ethic, London rockers Firefalldown release their new single These Wounds. From the get go, there is something strong and pulsing in this animal's veins. Some seriously driving riffage is going on here for sure. And the Chilli Peppers-style vocal harmonies work well with the polished efficiency of the band, as does the positive semi-social and Christian-influenced lyrical commentary. Nevertheless this is a tad too much on the vanilla side and very middle of the road for some people's palettes; the vocals although strong just don't have that edge to carry it all off. It sadly has the effect of making it all fade into the background somewhat, which is a shame as Firefalldown have bucket loads of potential throughout, it just needs tapping into a little bit more.

The acoustic B-side version of These Wounds. works strangely quite well with the rapid acoustic canter of the guitars and give the vocals more of a better chance to shine. A good effort but the next Creed? Not quite. This has all the makings of being a strong single but falls so disappointingly short of the mark you feel like you've only got half of the story. There's no denying the technical skill on display is there, but it just isn't enough.
