Weller, I'll be damned...
When you get musicians from The Jam and The Style Council praising The Longsands, you know that they must be pretty good. There's also something else you can probably deduce as a common denominator. This band have a little creative shrine glowing around the God-like image of Paul Weller.
Single Shut Your Mouth is by no means a carbon-copy of any of the Modfather's work, but there is a certain element of influence in the stylish drum spills and retro guitar. Vocally, frontman Trevor Cox maintains a little of that gravel to his words but they are smoothed off by his great ability for harnessing melody. Ignore the fact that particular choice of phrase makes him sound like he's trapping a woman in a net; and focus more on the fact you have been told on good authority that the boy can sing.
Shut Your Mouth is a straight up indie-boy track with a touch of the retro and plenty of love for one certain legend.
