Waves Of Fury - Thirst

Waves Of Fury impressed the UK with their single Businessman's Guide To Witchcraft, now they are set to release their debut album; Thirst.

The album kicks off with Death Of A Vampire which is the perfect introduction to the Somerset based quintet. As soon as the track starts playing you are engulfed by their unique blend of garage rock, blues and soul; sounds weird but it works.

Lyrically the album is said to be inspired by great writers such as Edgar Allan Poe and Saul Bellow, but due to the practically incomprehensible vocal style of Carter Sharp, it's hard to hear how true that is. However, Carter's vocals really work with the sound that Waves Of Fury produce and I wouldn't want to hear this work in any other way.

Song after song, Waves Of Fury impress; their music is distorted but somehow they've contained it just enough to make it incredibly catchy and likeable.

The songs and the musical performances heard on Thirst are simply divine, somewhere in amongst the craziness of their music I find myself thinking of Maniac, the musical baby of Shawn Harris of The Matches and Jake Grigg of Something With Numbers. Played together their music wouldn't sound overly similar but they both have a schizophrenic use of sound, and they both really make it work.

Thirst is fun, quirky and exciting. The passion the Waves Of Fury boys have put into creating this album literally comes oozing out of the speakers. This is a fantastic debut release from an up and coming UK band who I cannot wait to see in a live setting.
