Fuzzy Punk Rock
It's hard to stay mad at anyone or anything while listening to Peachfuzz, their punchy punk-rock come 90s indie tunes with their slightly gruff vocal delivery and bouncy rhythms tend to take over and induce dancing not fighting, excellent. I first reviewed the 'fuzz back in 2010 and commented at the time that their guitars were concise and their poppy melodies strong with a nice rocky-punk edge and I stand by that assessment; their sound hasn't changed a great deal along the way – perhaps less 90s indie/nostalgia and more punk-rock these days but it's minimal and that's not a bad thing at all.
We Are Solid State's opener is a fast paced, bouncy, sing along number (in the vein of the Gaslight Anthem et al) - one of the strongest tunes on the record and a great way to begin as it really gets you pumped for the rest of the album and dancing along. Follow up Close Enough is another great tune with female backing vocals and some Dinosaur Jr-esque riffage towards the end providing a distinctly 90s edge to proceedings. Slower moment - Like I Do feels more straightforwardly rocky but still harks back and this nostalgia seems to be one of the features of the whole album.
Overall, the Peachfuzz sound is always pleasing - perhaps a bit more of a raw and scuzzy punk bite would be a nice touch every now and again but that's partially down to personal taste from this reviewer and it can't be argued that they do what they do very well indeed - the album has enough solid moments to keep you listening until the last note.
