Jet Pack - Chasing Sunsets
West Midlands Jet Pack began life back in 2008 as four individuals who came together with a passion for pop punk music. Five years on and the latest offering from the foursome is the EP Chasing Sunsets.
Kicking off the release is Back To Life. It is a simple upbeat number, pulsating with guitar riffs and a thump of a solo that demands your attention. The vocals are strong and set the track on fire. Now I Know How John Locke Felt has a vocal edge on the verses, a deeper tone that works well with the higher pitch to the choruses. The harmonies also begin to take hold over this tune.
Next on the agenda are two mellower tunes. The first, Heat of the Moment is where vocals, lyrics and music come together to really put the emotions at a high for this song. Although at a slower pace, it has so much energy and passion that it strives to be heard. The title track features the guest vocals of solo singer songwriter Lauren Pryke. It is even slower than its predecessor and for good reason; this one has just a subtle guitar and relies more on the vocal and lyrical contribution than the music behind it. As it does build, the strength and emotions behind it increase - however after Laurens solo lines a full blown conclusion to the track would have been appreciated and gone down nicely.
The anthemic All I Need has more than enough energetic bounce to revert a listeners attention back from the slower tunes - guitar rhythms pound their way through and never let go of your attention. The concluding two minute musical number to the release and fittingly titled This is the End, is an up tempo blast of tough guitar rhythms and musical madness.
Full of contagious melodies, upbeat guitars and strong vocals, Chasing Sunsets is a brilliant release from the West Midlands foursome.
