The Summer Set - Legendary
Hailing from Arizona, The Summer Set has proven time after time how good they are as musicians having already spent an extensive amount of time touring and recording, and this third release Legendary is the perfect record to demonstrate what the next step in their career has to hold.
Maybe Tonight is the albums opening number and instantly gets you ready for what it has in store. Just like its opening number, the remainder of the album is jammed to the brim with pop melodies, energetic rhythms and bursts with energy. The majority of the tracks have an summer touch, imagine whizzing down some long winding road, roof down, stereo at full volume and the sun blazing...that's the visuals that pop out through the release, particularly on Lightning In A Bottle with the piano touch and the chorus lyrics you can scream at the top of your lungs.
7 Days and Jukebox (Life Goes On) use some acoustic guitar elements to take things down a touch with the addition of some incredible choruses to sing-a-long with, particularly the latter - Life goes on, We got all night, If you got rock and roll, You're gonna be alright, So give me one more drink, And play my favourite song, Put a quarter in the jukebox, And sing along.
Heart On The Floor has a more choir/gospel sounding vocal feel. Music takes a step back for the vocals to take centre point and the male/female vocals working incredible well together; this is one of the albums stand out tracks. Happy For You isn't as upbeat as previous tracks but creates a subtle break in the albums more up tempo songs, Someday has some of the finest vocals the album has to offer while Rescue takes on the group vocals.
The tracks penned and recorded for Legendary demonstrate a new maturity in all aspects. It is packed with amazing sing-a-long anthems, catchy choruses that burst with freshness, amazing harmonies and an insert of summer sun which we have all been missing! The Summer Set surpasses all expectations with this release as it becomes their strongest, most ambitious and definitive album to date.
